Mobile Satellite Serivces

Stratos is pleased to be the Official Provider of Mobile Satellite Services to the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 – the world’s premier ocean race.

Stratos will provide mobile satellite services via FleetBroadband, Fleet 33 and Inmarsat-C for video, audio and text-based reporting.

  • TV Footage - each week, a half-hour HDTV video, along with nine one-hour summaries, an estimated 90GB (or 20 DVDs) will be transmitted directly from the yachts to the event studios
  • Digital Media - radio interviews, photos and race reports will be transmitted via FleetBroadband
  • Position Reporting - every 15 minutes, each yacht will transmit its location so that fans and organizers can accurately track the scores and leadership tables, not to mention to maintain the safety of the crew on board.
  • Marine Updates – access to weather charts and navigational aids

Among other services, Volvo Ocean Race crew members may use Stratos’ popular maritime services AmosConnect™ and AmosConnect™ Crew to stay in touch with family and loved ones.

For the first time this year, a non-competing media specialist will work aboard each yacht to ensure that best video footage and interviews are transmitted back to shore via FleetBroadband.
